It was May 20, 2022 when AEK officially entered the era of Mathias Almeida. The Argentine then signed a two-year contract and a few months later his cooperation with the Union was extended until 2028. As of yesterday, however, his tenure on the yellow-and-black bench has effectively ended, with the club now (for a few weeks to be precise) looking for his replacement. Almeida met this afternoon with Mario Eliopoulos at the PAE offices in Hagia Sophia and there the foundations were laid for the end of a relationship that started great, but ends very badly on a competitive level As the team finished fourth and unranked in the playoffs… The meeting lasted about three hours, and Almeida’s associates were also present, as well as Javier Ribalta from time to time. After discussing what went wrong and the team ended up with this image, it was looked at how the contract of the Argentine and of course the rest of the men in his team would be released.
